Trading Update
Firstly let me apologise to all our staff for the lack of newsletter at Easter, I think the early appearance of the chocolates and Easter Bunny distracted me and as such you have had a prolonged wait to find out a bit more about what is going on here at Dorin.
Since my last update at Christmas the global and domestic economic picture has worsened considerably and at present the World’s leading economists cannot predict when the signs of economic recovery will be seen. Against this backdrop of a lack of credit and rising bills and personal taxation people are concerned about their own security and future.
I cannot predict the future for everyone but I can try to predict the next few months here at Dorin Holdings and it is certainly not all doom and gloom. We have enjoyed a strong start to 2008, whilst construction turnover has been lower than we would have liked, our enquiry levels have remained high and importantly we have turned a good few enquiries into contracts, in addition to the schemes outlined overleaf we believe that we are the preferred contractor on a number of other schemes and although our own residential developments are on hold we hope to have more good news to share with staff soon.
We continue to impress our clients with our strong performance on site and that is evidenced by the levels of repeat business we are seeing from Cheviot and Isos Housing Associations to name but two. I often comment on our site performance without specifically mentioning our site employees, it is their workmanship and attention to detail that has impressed our clients, so well done to you all.
Whilst construction may have been a little quiet Gilwood Mast have been very busy at both Market Dock and Cell C and are well on course to beat their budget this year. The combined M&E business has so far been the success we hoped for and David Duffy and all the Gilwood Mast staff and operatives deserve congratulations on an excellent first year.
For D&K the year has started well and we have continued to invest in new plant including four new JCB 3CX’s and a new telehandler.
As we come to the end of the financial year (30th June) I am pleased to report an increase in group turnover to £18m (up from £13m in 2006 –07). In addition we have now secured circa £12m of group turnover for the next financial year and we will be finalising the budgets for this period very soon.
In summary Dorin Holdings are well placed to ride out the current economic uncertainty and we are currently enjoying strong trading, the challenge for everyone involved is to ensure we continue to build on the successes we have achieved over the last year and that we push on to grow the business further.
