Dorin Construction is on the Right Track with Second Nexus Contract
Dorin Consruction, one of the region’s leading construction companies, has begun work on a flagship refurbishment scheme for Nexus.
The £90,000 scheme to refit the Nexus TravelShop at Central Station in Newcastle City Centre will become the blueprint for other travel station shops across the region.
As part of eight-week scheme, Dorin Construction will completely overhaul the shop, which includes fitting new counters, extending the customer waiting area and improving the leaflet displays for customers.
During the refit, the shop will be closed and is scheduled to re-open on Monday April 7.
Head of Retail Services for Nexus, John Souter, said: “This is a major refit at our Central Station Travelshop and when it re-opens customers can look forward to a much bigger store with improved facilities.”
This is the second contract Dorin Construction has undertaken for Nexus as the company has recently completed a £600,000 project to refurbish the Grade II Listed Whitley Bay Metro station.
Dorin Construction Director, Mick McHugh, said: “We’re delighted to be working with Nexus again on another of their projects. Newcastle Central Station is an extremely busy station and we will be working in close proximity to the general public, which adds to the complexity of the scheme. Our construction team will ensure that disruption for passengers is kept to an absolute minimum.”
The centre piece of Whitley Bay Metro station is the canopy at the front of the station, which Dorin Construction rebuilt using the original plans dating back to 1910. “It required a lot of skill and expertise to deliver this piece of history,” adds Mick McHugh. “It is a testament to the quality of the work we undertook at Whitley Bay Metro Station that we have now been appointed on another flagship project for Nexus.”
Recently Dorin Construction has been undertaking work in a wide variety of sectors such as social housing, offices, care homes, education and industrial and are continuing to look for opportunities to develop the business.
Dorin Construction is recognised as one of the region’s leaders in the provision of construction services employing 150 with an annual turnover of £20m. It is aiming to double the group turnover in the next five years and will be looking for opportunities to grow the business further in the coming years.
