Increasingly clients are requiring companies to demonstrate, when tendering for new projects and during the implementation of schemes, their qualification and commitment to the environment.

Dorin Construction is one of the only independent SME construction companies in the North East to hold ISO 14001 Accreditation.

We embarked on gaining ISO 14001 in 2007, after careful research. For an organisation of our size this commitment required significant investment in respect of management and staff time, together with a substantial financial investment.

We have an Environmental Management Representative who has led us through preparing a fully documented and robust Environmental Management System.

An environmental management system certified to the ISO 14001 standard is effective because it involves every aspect of a company’s activities that can affect the environment.

In October 2008, we had our first external audit on ISO 14001. This was an intensive audit and we were delighted that only two minor non-conformances were found.

In January 2009, we had our final audit and the auditor was very impressed with the system. He said that the company’s procedures were the best set of structured policy procedures and controls he has ever seen for a construction company. He was also highly impressed with the evidence and implementations he witnessed during his audit checks.
